Feeding the Soul or Tending the Body
by Eutychus II
From the Editor. Almost a year ago I had planned to make biblical theology the theme of this issue. Little did I know that one the greatest biblical theologians of our time would go to be with his Lord this spring. Professor Meredith George Kline died on April 14, 2007. He always had a book to read and wrote a few of his own. The opening and closing lines of his last book, God, Heaven, and Har Magedon, reveal his hope: "The Bible tells us of the existence of a realm our mortal eyes cannot see" (3). The last sentence reads, "The predestined pleroma of Christ will be assembled in fullness of joy before his Parousia-Presence on consummated Har Magedon, Mount of Gathering" (222). His prayers before each class convinced his students that he believed what he taught. For over half a century he instructed students to exegete and preach the Christ of Scripture, whom he loved. This issue of OS is dedicated to Meredith George Kline, one of our great professors of biblical theology, and one of our great professors of Christ. Fittingly, this issue includes memorial remarks of Dr. Kline's son Meredith M. Kline, and a review article by Pastor Yong Kim on Kline's God, Heaven, and Har Magedon.
This issue is also dedicated to those whoin the Princeton and Westminster traditionsare devoted to extensive reading as a necessary part of pulpit preparation. Pastor John Fesko surveys recent Old and New Testament studies. Finally, in the review department, to reinforce the friendship between biblical and systematic theology, Mark Garcia reviews the first two volumes of Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatics.
To add a little edifying humor to your churchmanship, Eutychus II provides his second offering of the year. So relax and leave your water bottle in the kitchen. What? You'll see...
