October 2007 Ordained Servant

From the Editor. I recently discovered that in the first fourteen years of Ordained Servant there was not one article on justification. The absence is clearly not because we view justification as unimportant, but because, until quite recently, this primary doctrine was never doubted or controverted in Reformed circles, at least within living memory. To accent the importance of this doctrine in our history I am republishing a sermon by J. Gresham Machen on Galatians 3:10-14.

In this issue we look at the doctrine of justification in terms of the uniqueness of its Reformed formulation. John Fesko explores the eschatological dimension of justification in its relationship to final judgment. Mark Garcia accents the uniqueness of the Reformed understanding of the place of justification in the system of doctrine, in his review article of two apparently very different books on justification.
