Is it correct for ministers to wear robes in worship services? I would like to know what the OPC teaches.
The OPC has no rule regarding wearing robes in the pulpit. Most of our ministers do not adopt the practice. I'm sure some do. It's a matter of choice by the pastor or the session, or both.
I think we would find it objectionable if a pastor would wear different colored robes to suggest different moods, such as penitence, joy, etc. I remember many years ago a neighboring Episcopal pastor showing me his clerical wardrobe with different colored robes to fit the various themes of the church year. But the mere wearing of a robe in the pulpit would be considered optional.
