1982 OPC Thank Offering

On this date in 1982, members and friends in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church were preparing to participate in the Thank Offering. John Mitchell in the pages of New Horizons explained the theme verse from 1 Thessalonians 1:8, "Sounding Forth the Word - In Thanksgiving:

"Why the Orthodox Presbyterian Church? Why, nearly fifty years ago, was it necessary to start another denomination? Why continue it? The reason then and the reason now is simply and basically this: To sound forth the Word of the Lord in every place (1 Thess. 1:8). Faithful believers back in the 1930s felt compelled to follow in those paths made by the Thessalonians. They had heard and received the word of God - and did so even then in "much affliction" - and could not help but strive to tell others of God's grace in Christ.".

Gifts to the 1982 Thank Offering by the end of the year would be $151,259.
